Puri: At least four doctors, who were pressed into service to provide healthcare to the residents of cyclone Fani-affected Puri district, have been suspended for dereliction of duty.

The Odisha Health department director suspended four doctors— Jakesh Samantray and Zahana Parbin of Nuapada community health centre (CHC) in Chilika, Bapujee Nayak and Jashmin Nilima Panda of Rebana Nuagaon CHC in Bhrahmagiri area.

They have been placed under suspension with immediate effect according to Odisha Civil Services (CC&A) rules, 1962.

On the other hand, Puri district headquarters hospital (DHH) CDMO Ramchandra Rout was transferred and posted as additional director of Directorate of Health Services, while Angul DHH chief medical officer, Amarendra Nath Mohanty, has been appointed as Puri CDMO.
