Ganjam/Puri: Students from various parts of Odisha escalated their demands for cancellation of annual Plus II exams conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) due to rising cases of coronavirus infection in the State.

Hundreds of students of some colleges in Ganjam and Puri further intensified their protests seeking immediate steps by the government in this regard.

As per reports, students of different higher secondary colleges in Aska area staged a protest near Biju Patnaik Chhak disrupting vehicular movement on the route. Later, after the intervention of Aska Tehsildar, the agitating students called off their protest.

Similarly, students of Nimapara Autonomous College and several residential secondary colleges blocked the Nimapada-Bhubaneswar Main Road demanding cancellation of the CHSE Plus II examination. The agitation created inconvenience to people travelling from Konark and Kakatpur to Bhubaneswar for couple of hours.

Local police station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) rushed to the spot and pacified the irate students. The protesters also submitted a memorandum to the Mass Education department through the IIC before calling off their demonstration.

It may be noted that after the annual Class 10 matric examination was scrapped by the State Government on April 21 following a massive protest by standard 10 students in front of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s residence.

The State Government also postponed the Class XII examination that was scheduled to be held on May 18 and clarified that the next date of examination would be declared after reviewing the Covid-19 situation in the State in the first week of June.

However, Plus II students have been demanding the cancellation of their exam amid a tremendous rise in the cases of Covid-19 in the State.
