Paradip: More than 200 engineering job aspirants created ruckus & indulged in ransacking inside JSW Paradip Terminal premises alleging non-fulfilment of job assurances.
As per reports, members of the Students Organisation of Biju Patnaik University (SOBU) barged into the office of JSW this morning demanding the authorities to fulfil the assurances made by the company authorities earlier.
They alleged that a recruitment agency hired by JSW is recruiting only non-Odias neglecting the interests of the local students.
The protesting students allegedly vandalised the office following which they also took out a march to the local police station. The students alleged that the JSW officials had assured them employment last time in the presence of police. So it’s the moral obligation of police to ensure that JSW fulfils its promise.
Denying allegations of vandalism, the General Secretary of SOBU said, “We went for a peaceful protest and weren’t involved in any kind of vandalism. It’s the JSW staff who damaged their own property and put the blame on us instead”
While police detained some of the protesters today, no comments could be obtained from the JSW authorities in connection with the matter.
As per reports, two months back, engineering students from the locality, mainly unemployed, had sat on a dharna in front of JSW main gate demanding jobs in the organisation. The authorities at that time had reportedly assured to recruit the students in their organisation in due time.
Later in the day, 10 engineering students were arrested and forwarded to the court in connection with violence and vandalism at the JSW Paradip Terminal premises.
