Bhubaneswar: The Special Squad of Commissionerate Police arrested four members of a criminal gang who were involved in several loot cases in the Capital City, on Wednesday morning.

As per reports, the police have recovered 12 gold chains weighing 80 grams which is worth over Rs 4 lakh, three vehicles and other incriminating materials from their possession.

The arrested looters have been identified as Rajesh Mahapatra, Robin Satpathy, Santosh Barik and Sagar Nayak. They were forwarded to the court later during the day, added reports.

Addressing a press conference on the arrest of the members of the snatching gang, Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash informed, "Two gangs were involved in several snatching cases reported in the month of January and February, till date. As many as eight snatchers have been arrested by the special squad of the Commissionerate Police and around 120 grams of gold ornaments have been seized from their possession so far. The gang was committing crime in several areas of the capital city during the early hours and sometimes at night," he added.

Sources said, as many as 13 cases of loot, snatching and other criminal offences were pending against them in several police stations of the capital city. The gang was active in Bhubaneswar and its adjoining areas for quite some time, police said adding that efforts are on to identify and nab the other members of the outfit. It is believed that their questioning will reveal the other cases they were involved in the past while the quantity of seizure of valuables would go up.
