Jeypore: The body of a youth who went missing in the Duduma waterfall near Semiliguda here in Koraput district on Friday was fished out today by the fire services personnel and ODRAF team.

The deceased has been identified as Satya Parija of Kaliagaan near Jeypore. As per sources, Satya had gone to the waterfall with four of his friends to celebrate New Year.

The unfortunate incident took place while Satya was clicking a selfie with the waterfall. He accidentally slipped into the water and went missing. Though his friends launched a search operation, they could not trace him. Later, they informed the fire service team.

"He fell off the waterfall while taking a selfie and slipped into the water body. We couldn't do anything to save him," said Dambaru Bhumiya, an eyewitness.

Local Tehsildar has assured Satya's family members of compensation as per government norms.

"We had tried hard to retrieve the body since last night. Today, the joint team of fire service department and ODRAF successfully fished out his body. It is a drowning case, so his family will get compensation of Rs 4 lakh as per government norms," said Manas Ranjan Patnaik, Macchkund Tehsildar.
