Bhubaneswar: Odisha logged a record 1264 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of coronavirus cases in the State rose to 21,099, informed I&PR department on Thursday. This apart, 6 more have succumbed to the virus, pushing the death toll to 114.

Of the new cases, 847 were reported from quarantine centres and 417 are local contacts. Ganjam reported maximum of 540 cases, followed by Khurda (137 cases), Rayagada (84), Gajapati (74), Nayagarh (61), Sundergarh (60) and Cuttack with 47 cases.

Contact tracing and follow-up action is underway, said the department.

The health department also informed about the demise of six Covid positive patients while under treatment in hospitals - 5 from Ganjam district and one from Khurda district.

So far, 13749 patients have recovered from the disease, while active case count stands at 7205 which is nearly 35% per cent of the total positives detected in the State as on today.

A total of 11,010 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, indicating the positivity rate at 11.5 per cent. The cumulative RT-PCR tests stand at 421931, as per government data.
