Bhubaneswar: A day after registering Covid positive cases below 1000, Odisha once again witnessed a slight uptrend with 1220 new infections in the last 24 hours, pushing the total cases to 305000 in the State, as per State Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department.

With 15 more fatalities during the period, the death toll due to the coronavirus infection mounted to 1,469, informed the State Health and Family Welfare Department.

Of the fresh cases reported from all the 30 districts, 703 are from quarantine and the rest 517 were local transmission. Khurda district reported the maximum number of 134 fresh cases, followed by Sundargarh (119) and Cuttack (96), added the I&PR department.

As far as the fatalities are concerned, four deaths were reported from Balasore, and three deaths from Cuttack. Two deaths each were recorded in Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara districts while one person succumbed in Angul, Khordha, Sambalpur and Mayurbhanj districts, respectively.

At least 53 patients infected with COVID-19 have died due to pre-existing ailments, said the State Health and Family Welfare Department.

After today’s surge, the active cases in the State have risen to 12341 while 291137 positive patients have so far recovered from the disease. As many as 49160 samples were tested in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tests to 5027959 in Odisha.

Morning data released by the health ministry reveals that 44,281 more persons tested positive for coronavirus in a span of 24 hours in India pushing the country's infection tally to 86,36,011. The death toll rose to 1,27,571 after 512 new fatalities were reported, according to the Union Health Ministry’s data.
