Kendrapara: Palpable tension erupted at ward number 11 of Pattamundai Municipality in the district following a clash between two groups of people on Saturday. The district administration imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC anticipating a resurgence of any untoward development.

As per sources, some people reportedly launched an attack against the members of another faction after forcibly breaking into their houses over a controversy surrounding the construction of a school building. In retaliation, the other group counter-attacked leaving as many as 10 people from both sides injured.

Two platoons of police force were pressed into action to disperse the brawling villagers. Cops rescued several locals who were badly wounded in the incident and made arrangements for shifting them to Pattamundai Medical.

Later, though a complaint was lodged at the Pattamundai PS, no significant headway into the case even after 24 hours has irked the locals.

Today, hundreds of locals mostly women staged a protest before near Pattamundai police station and completely snapped the vehicular communication on the main road that passes through the market. Sources said that two people from both groups have been taken into police custody.

Senior members and intellectuals of the local area have been asked to join a peace meeting today evening to resolve the issue.

Till the last report came in, the local Tahasildar, police IIC and other administrative officials were present at the spot to take stock of the situation.
