Bhubaneswar: In view of the soaring daytime temperature that crossed 40 degree Celsius at several places in the State, schools have started classes in morning shift from today to avoid heat wave related eventuality.

The School and Mass Education department has directed all District Education Officers (DEOs) to ensure morning classes amid strict adherence to the Covid-19 guidelines.

Classes for IX and XI which were conducted from 8.30 am to 10 am have been rescheduled from 7 am to 9 am. Similarly, students of class X and XII will attend classes from 9 am to 1 pm.

All the school authorities have been directed to make adequate arrangements of safe drinking water and oral rehydration at their respective school.  Students and teaching and non-teaching staff have been sensitised not to exposed to heat.

Due to the rising mercury level, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has cautioned Collectors about the heat wave condition. The district authorities have been asked to stay prepared to achieve a mission on zero casualty due to sunstroke.

Meanwhile, Angul emerged as the hottest town in the State yesterday with mercury soaring as high as 40.1 degree C breaking the record of last 10 years. Bhubaneswar became second hottest after Angul with 40 degrees C. Similarly, Boudh also recorded 40 degrees C on Sunday.

On Friday, Bhubaneswar had recorded highest daytime temerature (40.6 degrees C) for the 4th consecutive days in India.
