Bhubaneswar: After a hiatus of over 10 months, schools for the students of class IX and XI reopened today amid strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols across the State.

As per the Standard Operating Procedures (SoP) set by the School and Mass Education Department, classes will be held for two and a half hours beginning from 8 am every day, which will consist of three periods. As per the decision of the Mass Education department, the class room teaching for these two classes will continue till April 30.

The teaching staffs have been directed to report 30 minutes before the schedule time. There will be no half day and weekly-off on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Routine and scheme of lessons have been prepared as per the revised syllabus. The government has already reduced the syllabus by 30% owing to the Covid-19 induced lockdown.

The students will appear one unit test in second week of March while the annual examination will be held in the last week of April.

The sitting arrangements will be made as per the Covid-19 protocols, ensuring social distancing.

The government has decided to engage retired teachers to meet the crisis arising out of large scale vacancies in various schools across the State. Subjects like Mathematics, English and Social Science will be taught on a priority basis, sources said.

Notably, the government had earlier reopened the class for the class X students setting a norm of 100-day classroom teaching.

The annual examination for the Class X will begin from May 3.
