Bhubaneswar: The State Transport Department (STA) on Thursday announced that the all regional transport offices (RTOs) will remain open for two days during the Dussehra holidays.

Such decision has been taken to facilitate registration of vehicles during the festive season. The RTOs will remain open from 3 PM to 5 PM on October 24 and 26.

“It is expected that a large number of sale of motor vehicles would occur during this auspicious Durga Puja. As per Rule 42 of CMV Rule 1989, no dealer can deliver any motor vehicle without its registration and without affixing HSRP number plate,” said STA in a statement.

Since, there are four Government holidays-- from October 23 to 26-- during the 10 day long Durga Puja festivities, it might create hassles for automobile dealers to get their newly sold vehicle registered at the RTO offices. “However, in view of above it is hereby ordered that the Registration section of all RTOs shall remain open on two days i.e October 24and 26 from 3 PM to 5 PM to receive the registration documents from dealer and allotment of registration number,” read the statement.

“Under no circumstances, the dealers should deliver any new motor vehicle violating Rule 42 of CMV Rule 1989, without registration and without affixing HSRP number plate. All RTOs are instructed to check the dealer premises and ensure that, no vehicle is delivered without registration and affixing HSRP. In case the dealer is delivering the vehicles without registration/ without affixing HSRP then steps shall be taken for cancellation or suspension of the trade license of the dealer,” the STA statement added.
