Bhubaneswar: After handing over two key parking lots in the city to transgenders to collect parking fees, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday initiated process to revise the parking charges in the State capital which will be implemented from April 1.

According to sources, the BMC has invited tender for 32 parking lots in the town. As per the decision, there will be no parking charges for bicycles. However, bikers will have to pay Rs 5 for parking their two-wheelers for up to two hours.  Similarly, for auto-rickshaws, four-wheelers and heavy vehicles, the parking charges will be Rs 5, Rs 20 and Rs 25 respectively.

The parking cost for two to three hours will be Rs 15 for two-wheelers, while for three-wheelers, four-wheelers and heavy vehicles, the charges will be Rs 20, Rs 40 and Rs 50 respectively.

Furthermore, charges of Rs 25 will be levied for parking two-wheelers for three to four hours. In case of three-wheelers, four-wheelers and heavy vehicles, the parking fees have been fixed at Rs 35, Rs 60 and Rs 75 respectively.

For parking vehicles for more than five hours, commuters will need to pay 20 per cent extra per hour. Electric vehicles will be given 40 per cent discount on parking fees, the tender read.

Earlier on Thursday, the BMC had handed over two prime parking lots in the city to a transgender organisation TG Swikruti to collect parking fees. Under this initiative 17 transgender will carry out the exercise on an experimental basis for two months.
