Bhubaneswar: For the first time in over six months, Odisha did not report a single death due to Covid-19 in 24 hours, even as 231 fresh cases pushed the positive tally to 3,30,921, informed the State Health and Family Welfare Department on Wednesday.

"Happy to share that after over six months, there are no Covid deaths reported in the State on 5th January 2021. We salute our Covid Warriors whose tireless efforts have made this possible," tweeted the State health department today.

Last time the state reported zero deaths was on April 6. With this, the active coronavirus cases in the State stood at 2,203 while deaths remained at 1,887 and 3,26,778 recovered from the disease so far, as per the data of the health department.

The positivity rate in the State stood at 4.68 %, said the government data.

Of the 231 fresh cases reported from 28 districts in the last 24 hours, 133 cases are from different quarantine centres while the rest 98 are local contact cases.

Sundargarh reported the maximum 32 cases followed by Bargarh 25, Angul 21, Jharsuguda 15, Sambalpur 14, Jajpur 12, Bolangir 11, Cuttack 11 and Khordha 11 cases. Kandhamal and Malkangiri districts have not reported any new case today.

Khordha has the highest 52,794 Covid-19 positive cases so far. Similarly, with 326 deaths till date, Khordha has the highest number of deaths due to coronavirus infection.

As many as 70,64,878 samples have been tested for Covid-19 so far, including 20,195 on Tuesday, revealed the health department data.
