Bhubaneswar: With a single-day spike of 868 new coronavirus infections, Odisha’s COVID-19 tally went up to 310920 on Wednesday. Of the fresh cases, 502 are from quarantine, while 366 are local contact cases, informed State I&PR department.

Only one district has reported a spike of over 100 cases. Khordha district recorded the highest 102 new cases, followed by Sundergarh (82), Cuttack (65) and Balasore (52 cases).

As per government data, the death toll has jumped to 1575 with 15 more fatalities in the last 24 hours – 3 from Sundergarh, 2 from Sambalpur, 2 from Subarnapur, 2 from Gajapati while one each succumbed in Khordha (Bhubaneswar), Balasore, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Koraput, Mayurbhanj districts. The health department has also shared the details of the patients who succumbed while under treatment at hospitals during the period.

  • A 70-year-old male of Bhubaneswar who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
  • A 96-year-old male of Balasore district who was also suffering from Hypertension, BPH & COPD.
  • A 70-year-old female of Jajpur district.
  • A 54-year-old male of Kendrapara district who was also suffering from Hypertension.
  • A 75-year-old male of Koraput district.
  • A 37-year-old male of Mayurbhanj district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, CKD on Maintainance Haemo dialysis .

As of now, at least 53 patients infected with COVID-19 have died due to pre-existing ailments, informed the H&FW Department.

Odisha also crossed the three lakh Covid recovered cases on Tuesday. So far, 300474 patients have recuperated from the disease in Odisha, while the active case count stands at 8818. A total of 45,455 samples were tested in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tests to 5376393 in Odisha.
