Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Tuesday witnessed a steep rise in the Covid-19 cases after 588 new positives were reported from different parts of the State in the past 24 hours.

It is for the second consecutive day that the daily Covid-19 tally breached the 500-plus cases mark. On Monday, the State had reported 573 Covid-19 cases.

Of the new 588 Covid-19 cases, maximum of 105 cases have been reported from Khordha district, followed by Sundergarh (84), Kalahandi (64), Jharsuguda (31), Cuttack (30) and Nuapada (29).

The Puri district administration has clamped strict restrictions on tourists coming from other States witnessing a surge in Covid-19 infections. Puri Collector Samarth Verma on Tuesday said that strict surveillance is now in place at the railway station and Covid negative report has been made mandatory for those people coming from five high-risk States in the country.

As many as 1, 67,034 persons have been vaccinated in Odisha yesterday against the target of 2 lakh daily. As many as 3.49 lakh more doses of Covishield vaccine will reach Odisha today even as the State has a present stock of 6 lakh shots which will last for the next two days, said Health Director Bijay Panigrahy .
