Bhubaneswar: Odisha reported 407 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, pushing the total positive tally to 3,24,796, while the death toll mounted to 1,820 with five more fatalities.

Of the new cases detected in 26 of the 30 districts, 236 have been reported from different quarantine centres and the remaining 171 are related to local transmission cases.

Sundargarh district recorded the highest of 62 new infections followed by Angul (60), Khordha (46), Cuttack (25) and Mayurbhanj (24). Deogarh, Rayagada, Nabarangpur and Sonepur districts did not register any coronavirus case during the last 24 hours, as per Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department.


In terms of fatalities, Angul, Balasore, Bolangir, Cuttack and Sundargarh reported one death each, informed H&FW Department.

The H&FW department also released the details of the deceased who died while undergoing treatment at various hospitals across Odisha:

  • A 57-year-old female of Angul district.
  • A 65-year-old male of Balasore district who was also suffering from Hypertension.
  • A 44-year-old male of Bolangir district.
  • A 72-year-old male of Cuttack district.
  • A 65-year-old male of Sundargarh district who was also suffering from Hypertension.

A total of 53 other COVID-19 patients have died in the state due to comorbidities.

So far, Khurda district alone has accounted for 311 deaths, followed by Ganjam (246), Sundergarh (156), Cuttack (138) and Puri (110).

A total of 31,592 samples were tested in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tests to 64,68,957 in Odisha. After today’s surge, the active Covid-19 cases in the State stands at 3,073 while 3,19,850 patients have recuperated from the disease so far.
