Bhubaneswar: The Covid-19 cases in Odisha continued to remain over 3,000 for third consecutive day pushing the active cases over 20,000 in just a period of two weeks. The State on Sunday reported 3,664 cases while two patients succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.

Odisha had last registered over 3,600 cases around six months ago on September 30, 2020, when 3,615 people had tested positive for the virus with 2,118 from quarantine and 1,497 local contacts.

Of the fresh cases detected in 30 districts of the State, a total of 2,127 cases were reported from quarantine centres while the rest 1,537 were local transmission cases, revealed a data released by the State Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department.

With this, the Coronavirus positive tally in the State surged to 3,68,258 while the death toll rose to 1,944. The active cases in the State stood at 21,436 while 3,68,258 patients have been cured or recovered.

The two fatalities were reported from Bargarh and Sundargarh, said the State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department.

Ten districts of the State reported over 100 cases. While Khordha topped the list with 704 cases, Sundargarh remained in the second position with 340 positive cases. This was followed by Kalahandi (324), Nuapada (221), Bargarh (210), Sambalpur (199), Cuttack (198), Jharsuguda (183), Puri (143) and Mayurbhanj (119).

Districts which reported over 50 cases are as follows- Nabarangpur (81), Bolangir (79), Jagatsinghpur (68), Ganjam (66), Gajapati (63), Angul (59), Jajpur (58), Rayagada (57) and Keonjhar (56).

The State has so far tested a total of 95,99,877 samples including 34,450 on Saturday. Odisha’s positivity rate stands at 3.84 percent.
