Bhubaneswar: As many as 358 people were tested positive for Covid-19 while four patients succumbed to the virus in Odisha in the last 24 hours pushing the infection tally to 3,25,505 and death toll to 1,829 in the State on Friday.

The new cases were detected from 27 districts of the State. A total of 208 of them were reported from different quarantine centres, the remaining 150 are local contact cases. Three districts - Boudh, Kandhamal and Malkangiri, did not register any new cases during the last 24 hours, said the health department.

Angul district recorded the highest 52 fresh cases followed by Khordha (36), Balasore (35), Sundargarh (29), Cuttack (28) and Nuapada (26), as per the data revealed by the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department today.

Taking to Twitter, the State Health and Family Welfare Department (H&FW) said, "Regret to inform the demise of four numbers of Covid positive patients while undergoing treatment in hospitals."

One each patient succumbed to the infection in the districts of Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara.

Of the total 1,829 fatalities reported so far in the state, Khurda district alone accounted for 312 deaths followed by Ganjam (246), Sundergarh (158), Cuttack (138) and Puri (112). Twenty-five other districts reported fatalities below 100.

Apart from the 1,829 Covid-19 deaths, 53 people who were Covid-19 positive had also died due to cormorbidities.

The H&FW department also released the details of the deceased who died while undergoing treatment at various hospitals across Odisha:

  • A 63-year-old male of Bhubaneswar who was also suffering from Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Hypothyroidism & Chronic Kidney Disease.
  • A 71-year-old male of Jagatsinghpur district.
  • A 61-year-old male of Kendrapara district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension & Parkinsonism.
  • A 60-year-old male of Puri district.

With the fresh surge, Odisha has 3,039 active coronavirus cases, while 3,20,584 patients have so far recovered from the infection.

The state has tested 65.36 lakh sample for COVID-19 so far, including 33,809 on Thursday. Odisha's positivity rate stands at 4.98 per cent, said the H&FW department.
