Bhubaneswar: With 1633 cases on Sunday, Odisha reported a new low in COVID-19 cases in a single day spike. The number of fresh cases reported in the State each day has been below 2,000 from the third week of October.

The new positives pushed the COVID-19 caseload to 281215 which included 17886 active cases and 262031 recoveries, said the Information and Public Relation Department.

The death toll due to coronavirus reached 1245 as 16 more patients succumbed to the infection, the Health and Family Welfare Department said.

Of the fresh cases, 955 patients are from quarantine while 678 are local contact cases. Five districts recorded over 100 cases with Khordha witnessing the maximum of 158 Covid-19 cases followed by Cuttack (132), Sundergarh (106), Kendrapara (105) and Angul (100).

In terms of death, Angul, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Khordha and Sundergarh recorded two fatalities each while Bargarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Keonjhar, Malkangiri and Puri districts registered one death each, added the Health Department.

The State health dashboard revealed that 37801 samples were tested on Sunday for COVID-19 taking the number of samples tested cumulatively across the State to 4318075.
