Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police has intensified the investigation into the incident of recovery of a human skeleton from a seized vehicle parked inside the premises of Janla outpost on the outskirts of the Capital City.

According to police sources, an Inspector of Mahila Police Station has been given the responsibility to probe the case.

“From the post mortem report, it is found that the deceased was suffering from tuberculosis and had died of natural causes. However, the case is pretty sensitive and we are investigating the case seriously,” said Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadarshi.

“The skeleton sample of the woman will be sent to Hyderabad for scull mapping to ascertain her real identification. A sketch of the deceased will also be drawn,” he said.

Earlier, a senior police official was suspended for dereliction of duty in this connection.

Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash on Saturday had informed that the vehicle had been seized by the Ganjam police in a narcotics case in 2019. The seized vehicle was parked on the campus of the Janla police outpost since then. It is however unclear why the vehicle was parked at the outpost located on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar instead of Berhampur.

The human skeleton had been spotted after a team from the Berhampur police visited the Janla outpost in February this year to release the vehicle.

Following the detection, the human skeleton had been sent to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for autopsy. The post-mortem reports ascertained the gender of the skeleton to be of a woman around 45-year-old.

As per the post mortem report, the deceased was suffering from tuberculosis and had died of natural causes. The senior official at the outpost has been put under suspension for his failure to detect the incident that occurred within the compound.
