Cuttack: The first dengue death of 2019 was reported from the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Tuesday after a 60-year-old patient from Kendrapara died while undergoing treatment.

The deceased has been identified as Debaki, wife of Debendra Behera of Balakati village under Aul Police limits of Kendrapara district.

According to sources, Debaki was tested positive for dengue after being admitted to the hospital on July 29 and she was undergoing treatment at dengue ward's ICU. However, she breathed her last today at around 5 PM.

"The patient from Kendrapara's Aul area was admitted to the hospital on July 29, and died at around 5 PM today. Her liver, kidney and brain stopped functioning and she also had breathing issues," informed dengue nodal officer at SCB, Sriprasada Mohanty.

"As many as 270 persons were tested positive for dengue out of the 4,311 blood samples collected for the purpose since January this year," Mohanty added.

"At least 29 patients suffering from dengue are being treated at the dengue ward and five of them are admitted to the ICU," he added.

It is worth mentioning that measures have been undertaken at the SCB for treatment on dengue patients from different parts of the State and a special dengue ward with 200 beds and six ICUs has been kept ready.
