Sambalpur: Close on the heels of ragging allegations on the campuses of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences And Research (VIMSAR) and Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) in Burla, the evil of ragging has raised its ugly head in the Odisha Medical College Of Homoeopathy and Research (OMCH&R) in Sambalpur now.

A girl student of the Homoeopathy College has accused her five seniors of torturing and harassing her mentally. The victim student has also lodged a complaint with the National Anti-Ragging cell, New Delhi in this regard on 31 March.

Based on the complaint, the National Anti-Ragging Cell, New Delhi on 1 April had directed the authorities of OMCH&R to initiate an enquiry into the matter and submit a report.

Following the instructions, the anti-ragging cell of OMCH&R has started an inquiry into the incident on Friday, informed Principal of the Homoeopathy College Prof. (Dr.) Rajendra Kumar Singh.

“The ragging incident came to the fore after they received a mail and a phone call from the New Delhi Anti-Ragging Cell on 1 April. Neither the hostel superintendent nor we have received any written or oral complaint of ragging from the student yet,” said Singh.

“The incident took place in the girl hostel and the complain has been lodged against five students- 4 female students and 1 male student. We will complete the enquiry by today and the report will be submitted to the national anti-ragging authorities soon,” added the Principal.

Reports said, a verbal fight erupted between the complainant student and the four female students, all borders of the girls hostel of the college, on 31 March over an issue. Following the argument, the former lodged a written complaint with the anti-ragging cell in New Delhi.
