Sundergarh: Tension prevailed in Jhiripani area when local people including the family members of a youth sat on dharna after placing his body in front of the local police station in the district on Sunday.

They demanded immediate action against the accused, who had allegedly trashed the youth a couple of days ago resulting in his death at Baikuntha Ghata village.

According to reports, the deceased had a long-standing dispute with some villagers. A few days ago, he was beaten to death by some miscreants following a heated exchange of words between him and the opposite group.

Heavy force including two Additional Superintendent of Police (SP), four Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and two platoon police have been deployed near the police station to avert any untoward incident.

Till the last report came in, police were trying to pacify the protestors to bring the situation under control.

Earlier on October 23, the family members of a youth along with fellow villagers had staged a dharna in front of the forest office at Nachhipur village under Padadiha range in Mayurbhanj district alleging that the forest department employees had beaten him to death on suspicion of being a poacher.
