Bhubaneswar: Hours after Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ordered a 10-day special drive for enforcement of Covid safety protocols, State Director General of Police (DGP) announced that the drive will begin throughout the State from tomorrow.

The special initiative will be undertaken by the police personnel across Odisha from April 7 to 16.

“Covid-19 cases are rapidly rising all over the country. Today during video conference, CM has ordered for 10 days special drive for enforcement of COVID safety regulations. Accordingly, a special 10 days drive for enforcement of COVID safety regulations will be launched from 07.04.2021 to 16.04.2021,” DGP Abhay wrote to all district SPs, DCPs, SRP, Cuttack, SRP, Rourkela.

During the drive, special emphasis would be given on the enforcement of wearing of masks and maintaining social distancing.

“A daily report should be submitted to ADG (L & O) about outcome of the drive. Range DIsG/IsG/CP/ADG, Rlys are requested to guide district SsP adequately,” the DGP stated in the letter.

He added that awareness generation of COVID appropriate measures should go side by side with enforcement.

Reviewing the Covid-19 situation in the State through video conferencing, the CM today said, “We have to enforce the Covid safety protocols strictly to slow down the spread of the virus. DGP to deploy the police personnel in large numbers across the State in a 10-day drive to strictly enforce the Covid Safety protocols as notified.”

He also focused on western Odisha districts having a high concentration of Covid-19 cases and urged the Chief Secretary, ACS Health and Family Welfare, and Senior officials concerned to visit the region and make an on the ground assessment and take suitable urgent action.
