Bhadrak: In a bizarre incident, a police Havaldar from Bhandaripokhari police station was held captive by residents of Khadisinga village in the district for allegedly misbehaving with the wife of a person who had been arrested recently.

The policeman, identified as Harmohan, was later handed over to the police station where an FIR has been registered against him.

According to the report, residents of Khadisinga village caught hold of Harmohan after the woman complained of his promiscuous behaviour. Harmohan, it has been alleged, was trying to take advantage of the woman’s situation in making advances at her following the arrest of her husband sometime back.

As per sources, woman’s husband had been arrested by the Bhandaripokhari police in connection with a land dispute and forwarded to the court.

While being taken to the prison, the man requested Havaldar Harmohan to allow him use the latter’s phone in order to talk to his wife.

Later, Harmohan saved the woman’s number without her husband’s knowledge or her consent.

Thereafter, Harmohan started making calls to her every day while her husband was away in prison.

On Tuesday morning, when Harmohan showed up at the woman’s house uninvited and misbehaved with her, fellow villagers who heard her screams caught him in the act.

They over powered him and kept him in detention before handing him over to the police.

The Bhandaripokhori Police has lodged an FIR against the delinquent policeman and further investigations are on.
