Bhubaneswar: Following suspension of quick action team (QAT) chief, Deepak Lenka, Odisha Police has begun the process to put a new team in place.

The new officer-in-charge will be chosen out of a list of inspectors and sub-inspectors. The selected officer-in-charge will then select a team of his or her choice, informed sources.

According to sources, Himanshu Swain of Commissionerate police, Akash Rana and some other officers are frontrunners to lead the QAT.

Earlier on August 17, Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty suspended Lenka and had said that a new QAT team will be formed soon.

Lenka was suspended on alleged misconduct in a brown sugar supply case along with some other cases. Eight other members of the QAT were also transferred.
