Sundergarh: Police on Thursday arrested four members of a family for burning alive their daughter-in-law two days ago after finding that she was pregnant with a second girl child.

The arrestees include the husband, father-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law of the deceased Radha Kumari. As per reports, Radha Kumari, daughter of Shiv Kumar, a resident of Gopabandhupali area in Rourkela had married Binod Singh, a resident of Koilagate area in Rourkela, six years ago. They had a 6-year-old daughter.

As alleged by the father of Radha, her in-laws were reportedly demanding dowry and torturing her with threats to burn her alive. On February 11, the situation went out of hand when Radha's in-laws reportedly beat her up for being pregnant with her second girl child and later set her ablaze.

Radha was rushed to Rourkela IGH in a critical condition, where she gave birth to a baby girl. However, the newborn died while undergoing treatment at the hospital and later Radha also succumbed to her burn injuries.

Rourkela DSP Pradyumna Kumar Mishra said, "Based on the complaints against 4 persons, police arrested the in-laws of the deceased's woman and have court forwarded them. Investigation is underway to ascertain the exact reason behind the murder of the woman," added Mishra.
