Bhawanipatna: Police on Monday arrested four persons on charges of creating ruckus at Kamathana Covid-19 hospital here in Kalahandi district following death of a patient due to alleged medical negligence.

While two accused belong to Cheliamalar, the two others are from Kusumadar village in the district. The accused have been forwarded to the court, police informed.

“We have arrested three persons and forwarded them to court. The fourth accused has tested positive for Covid-19. He is under isolation now,” said Kalahandi SP Saravana Vivek M.

We urge people to follow all Covid-19 guidelines issued by the State government. Stringent action will be taken against the violators, the top cop cautioned.

According to sources, tension erupted at the hospital after a Covid patient died on April 23 due to alleged medical negligence. His relatives created ruckus in the hospital premises alleging unavailability of doctors and other basic facilities like provision of food and drinking water. The video of the entire incident went viral on internet.

Reacting on the allegations, Kalahandi CDMO Pratap Chandra Behera said the complaints are baseless.

“The complaints are false and baseless. There are four doctors at the hospital and all possible treatments are being provided to the patients,” said Behera.
