Nayagarh: Lack of timely medical help due to poor road connectivity in the interiors of Odisha continues to haunt a large population in the State, often putting their lives at risk.

In another such instance, a 65-year-old senior citizen from Koshalanga village under Nuagaon block in the district died on Friday night on account of the in ordinate delay in getting him admitted to a hospital.

In a frantic bid to shift the man, in urgent need of treatment, to a hospital, his family and villagers carried him on a cot for about two kilometres to reach an ambulance in the absence of a motorable road to the village.

The deceased has been identified as Kantha Kanhara.

According to reports, Kanhara’s relatives summoned an ambulance after his condition deteriorated on Friday night. However, the ambulance had to stop midway as bad road condition made movement impossible.

The ambulance eventually couldn’t reach the patient.

With no options left, the family members along with some villagers carried the patient on a cot for more than two kilometres to reach the ambulance and he was somehow admitted to the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital.  However, despite all efforts put in my doctors Kanhara died while undergoing treatment in the hospital, villagers said.

According to locals, the residents of other villages in the vicinity are also facing a lot of hardship in the absence of proper road connectivity. Doctors too are finding it difficult to reach the patients in the remote areas in emergency cases, they said.
