Cuttack: The Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) on Friday recommended the names of as many as six players to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for their bidding in the 14th edition of the Indian Premiere League (IPL) 2021 all set to be held between April and May this year.

The players include Subhransu Senapati, Rajesh Dhupar, Rajesh Mohanty, Papu Ray, Gourav Choudhury and Tarini Sa.

While Subhransu and Gourav have been recommended as batsmen, the names of Mohanty and Tarini have been sent as medium pacers. Dhupar and Papu have been categorised as wicket keeper-batsman and tweaker, respectively.

According to OCA sources, all these players have been selected on the basis of their stellar performances in the on-going Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 cricket tournament and past records.

“All the recommended players are young and promising. Subhransu is now arguably the best batsman in the State team. However, the competition is pretty tough to get a berth in an IPL franchise. I wish them all the best,” said Odisha head coach and former Ranji player Rashmi Ranjan Parida.

The countdown for the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league has already started with the franchises announcing the lists of the retained and released players on January 20. The auction for the mega event is tentatively scheduled for February 11.

It is worth mentioning that, all-rounder Biplab Samantray and wicket-keeper-batsman Haladhar Das from Odisha have played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Deccan Chargers, respectively in previous seasons.
