Dhenkanal: A newlywed woman was found hanging at her in-law’s residence in Bidyabandha village under the Sadar police station on Saturday.

The deceased, identified as Jharana Nayak, was a resident of Kalanda village of Hindolo who was married to Madanmohan Nayak a resident of Bidyabandha village just three days ago (February 17).

As per reports, at around 8 am on Saturday when Jharana didn’t come out of the room for a long time the worried family members broke open the door and allegedly found her hanging from the ceiling fan.

The deceased’ husband, Madanmohan, said, “on Saturday morning Jharana took my mobile phone and asked me to leave the room. I left the room and started cleaning dishes in the kitchen. After sometime my mother noticed the door locked from inside and called me, without knowing I was out. I joined her upon hearing her calls. However, when we could not get any response from Jharana, I broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling fan.” The police was informed subsequently.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s father dismissed suspicions that she could have taken the extreme step owing to a failed affair before marriage.

“It can just be a suicide as my daughter had mental health issues before she got married. She would get anxiety attacks and lose temper for no reasons,” he said.

Madanmohan however, completely denied of having any knowledge about Jharna’s medical history. “I am not aware of her mental issues and never noticed anything weird in her,” he said.

The body has been sent for post mortem while investigations are on into the case.
