Jharsuguda: In what might be called as an inspiring deed, last rites of an old lady, who was a beggar, were conducted by a local MLA when no one in the village turned up for her funeral. This incident was reported from Amanapali village under Kolabira block of Jharsuguda.

Sources said, the lady was a beggar and after her death, no one wanted to perform her last rites. When Rengali MLA, Ramesh Patua came to know about the incident, he along with other volunteers carried the dead body on a hearse and buried it near the village.

"As soon as I got the news, I immediately left for Amanapali along with my two sons to complete her last rites," Patua said.

The noble act by the people's representative was praised by locals.
