Nayagarh: At a time when the State is boiling over rising cases of atrocities against minors and safety of girl children, especially in the backdrop of the alleged kidnapping and murder of Pari, another girl from Nayagarh district who had been missing for the past few days was found dead on Tuesday.

As per reports, the body of 3-year-old girl Swati was recovered from a pond, located few metres away from her house at Badhipatna village in the district.

Swati went missing Friday last (December 11) and a massive search operation was launched by the police and Odisha Fire Services personnel to trace her.

The exact reason behind Swati’s death can be ascertained only after a detailed probe. Asked whether she was murdered or died due to some other reasons, a senior police official said that things will get clear after the body is sent for an autopsy and the reports are obtained.

Sources said Swati, daughter of Sanjay Sahoo, who was playing outside her house went missing between 2-2.30 PM. Frantic attempts made by her family members to trace her did not yield any result, forcing them to lodge a missing complaint with Ranpur Police in connection with the incident.
