Bhubaneswar: Throwing law and order to wind, unidentified miscreants snatched gold chain from a woman near Jharpada jail in the State Capital city early Tuesday morning.

According to sources, three bike-borne miscreants intercepted the woman, who was out for morning walk and snatched the jewellery from by threatening her with sharp weapons.

The woman sustained minor injuries as she fell down while resisting the assailants, she said.

"Like every day, I went out for a walk this morning. While returning at around 7 am, I saw three youths standing near an apartment. One of them came to me and asked to give the gold chain that I was wearing. He placed a sharp weapon on my neck and snatched the chain away," said the victim Manorama Sahoo.

Meanwhile, police have recovered the CCTV footages of the area for further investigation.

Notably on January 14, the Commissionerate Police had recovered 385 gram of gold and 25 kg of silver ornaments from a gang of looters in Cuttack.

The Twin City police also seized Rs 12,000 cash, 2 bikes and 4 mobile phones from their possession and arrested five persons including a shopkeeper on the charges of lifting the valuables from a jewellery shop on IB Road in Jagatpur.

The accused had allegedly stolen 385 grams of gold, 25 kg of silver ornaments and cash from a jewellery shop on December 5. Since then, a special squad of the police had been investigating the same.
