Bhubaneswar: Winter is here. Mercury level dropped below 15 degree Celcius in four cities in the State on Friday.

Sonepur recorded the lowest temperature of 12.8 degree Celcius. It was followed by Phulbani and Daringbadi at 14 degree Celcius each. Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar recorded 19.8 degree Celcius and the temperature in Cuttack stood at 20 degree Celcius.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), La Nina  (a weather pattern that occurs in the Pacific Ocean) over the west Pacific Ocean may affect the weather condition in Odisha till January next year, the IMD stated.

“Winter came in late this year as the withdrawal of monsoon was delayed due to the formation of few depressions and low pressures in late October. With the monsoon leaving Odisha completely now, the cold condition is likely to prevail and mercury will drop further from November 5-11,” stated weather expert Uma Sankar Das.

“It is expected that winter would be colder this year due to the effect of La Nina,” said Das.
