Sambalpur: The anti-ragging cell of Veer Surendra Sai Institute Of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla on Friday launched a probe after a student of the institute alleged ragging by seniors.

According to initial reports, a second year MBBS student reported the ragging incident during visit of the anti-ragging squad of the medical college to the hostel. Later, the anti-ragging squad informed the dean-cum principal about the matter. Subsequently, the principal directed the anti-ragging cell to launch a probe into the matter and find out the truth.

While it is yet to be confirmed whether the student was subjected to mental or physical harassment, the VIMSAR Dean Jayashree Dora said the anti-ragging cell has been directed to verify the veracity of the allegations.

“The anti-ragging cell will verify the authenticity of the allegations and the actual matter will be known after the panel submitted the report,” said VIMSAR Dean Jayashree Dora.

She said the anti-ragging squad routinely visit the hostels to check whether any student is facing ragging.

Notably, ragging in any form is strictly prohibited in all institutes. If the ragging instance is established, disciplinary action is initiated  against the accused students. The accused students may be dismissed or barred from appearing examinations.
