Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has made elaborate security arrangements to thwart malpractice, question paper leak and prevent any other lapses during the Class X Matric examination which will begin from tomorrow.

To avoid question paper leak, the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha (BSE) has reportedly adopted a multi-tier protection system for question-cum-answer papers which will be packed in three different covers- one to be opened by the exam centre superintendent while the second cover will be opened by the invigilator after signature of two students. Later, the final seal on the question-cum-answer papers will be opened by the students.

Besides, a three-tier squad system has been formed to check malpractice during the Matric exam.

School and Mass Education Minister Samir Dash said that his department has taken all measures to conduct the examination smoothly. "I urge the students to appear for the exam without stress," said Dash.

Controller of Examination of BSE, Nihar Ranjan Mohanty said, "The students will open the seal of the question-cum-answer booklet at 10 AM and will have to answer the objective questions first. After one hour, the booklet will be collected from them and at 11 AM, the students will be allowed to open the subjective question-cum-answer booklet."

As many as 5, 60, 905 students will appear for the class X examination this year. A nodal supervisor or exam observer will be engaged in all the 2,888 examination centres across the State to ensure the question sets safely reach schools and no mobile phones are allowed into the examination centres. Apart from the students, the invigilators and centre superintendents are also not allowed to carry mobile phones into the exam centres.

The BSE has set up 307 nodal centres and 61 evaluation centres for the exam this year. The exam will begin on February 19 and conclude on March 2, 2020. The answer sheets will be evaluated between March 18 and April 10.
