Jajpur: A married woman, who was apparently trying to commit suicide by jumping into a river, has been rescued by the passersby. The incident that took place near Akhuapada under Panikoili police limits in the district on Saturday came to light after a video of the woman standing atop the railing of the bridge on River Baitarani went viral on social media.

She was seen attempting to jump off the bridge while passersby requested her not to take such dire step.

The video showed an onlooker persuading her to desist from taking the extreme step and assured to resolve any issues that was bothering her.

Another man was also seen requesting her not to jump into the river. He advised that suicide was not the way of solution to any problem.

One of the bystanders who was watching the entire scene came forward and approached the woman, "Please tell us your problems and the reason. Why you are attempting to take this drastic step?"

"Every problem has a solution. At least if you share your issues with us, we will help you," he could be heard saying to the woman to console her.

Finally, after several minutes, the gathering managed to rescue the woman by capturing her.

She was immediately sent to local health centre for medical examination and later handed over to Panikoili police.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman hailing from Balasore had married two months ago in Keonjhar. Police sources said she was contemplating taking the drastic step due to family feud.

Police have summoned her family members for questioning. The woman is under police custody, sources said.
