Baripada: In a bizarre incident, a man allegedly killed his father-in-law by slitting his throat over past enmity at Khuntapur village under Baisinga police limits here in Mayurbhanj district on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Singh of Khiripada village under the same police jurisdiction.

According to reports, Ramesh visited the house of the accused son-in-law to celebrate Prathamastami and perform rituals for his grandson. Ramesh came with sweets and new dresses for his grandson for the occasion.

However, Ramesh had a past enmity with his son-in-law Raju Singh over a family dispute following which Raju had been staying separately from his wife.

As Ramesh reached Raju's house with Prathamastami gifts, Raju opposed him and asked him to go back. The verbal duel between the two took an ugly turn when Raju, with the help of his brother Laba, tied his father-in-law to a cot and beat him severely. Later, he slit Ramesh's throat with the help of a sickle. Profusely bleeding Ramesh died on the spot.

Neighbors immediately informed the police who reached the spot and seized the body for post-mortem.

Accused Raju Singh and his brother Laba are absconding soon after committing the crime. A case has been registered in this connection, police said.
