Bhubaneswar: It seems straight out of popular romantic Odia song ‘Janha Raijare Jaga Te Kinichi’, sung by Suresh Wadkar which literally means ‘I have bought a piece of land in the moon.’ Bizarre it may sound, a man from Odisha’s Dhenkanal district has bought a lunar plot and presented it as a gift to his wife on her birthday.

Mohammad Sajan, an engineer by profession, purchased five acres of land on the moon and presented it to his wife Nazia on her birthday.

Speaking about the celestial gift, Sajan said he planned of giving some unique birthday present to his wife and purchased the land after an application with the Lunar Society International. He claimed to have spent 519 dollar (Rs 38,000 approximately) to buy 5 acres of land on the moon.

“I bought the plot in June last year to present her on her birthday which falls on October 29. However, due to Covid-19, there was delay in the process and now I received the ownership of the land. I am also happy that the proceeds of the land deal is used by NASA for child welfare,” said Sajan.

Sharing her excitement over the ‘heavenly gift’ Nazia said, “I could not believe that my husband will go to this extend to surprise me. I am extremely happy and excited.”

“I never thought of such gift in my wildest dreams. I feel very lucky to have such a husband in my life,” she added.
