Koraput: Furious and anguished family members of a man, who died during treatment at the Laxman Nayak Medical College in Koraput, sat with the body in front of the hospital on Friday night alleging serious negligence by doctors that led to his death.

The family members have also lodged an FIR alleging criminal negligence on part of the doctors for failing to extend timely medical attention to the patient.

The protest by the deceased’s family escalated after locals chipped in, leading to a large crowding and palpable tension in the hospital premises.

As per reports, Amit kumar Das from Koraput was admitted to the hospital three days ago after he was diagnosed with Dengue infection.

One of Das’ family members, Praksh, claimed that the doctors who were on duty did not bother to attend to the patient even after they were informed repeatedly. It was despite the fact that the patient’s condition was fast deteriorating. In desperation, the family members ran to nurses and other staff at the hospital who reportedly did not even bother to treat Das.

The family said though they have lodged an FIR against the medicos, the police are still to act on their complaint.
“The police seem to be sitting tight on the complaint and showing no interest in pursuing the matter so as to give us justice,” said one of the family members.

The medical superintendent and local police reached the place and tried to pacify the irate family members and locals.
However, they refused to speak to the media.
