Kamakhyanagar: Furious with his wife for speaking on mobile phone for a long time, a man allegedly killed her by setting her ablaze at Chunaragadi village under Kankadahada police limits here in Dhenkanal district on Friday.

The accused identified as Naba Kishore Kabat has been detained and is being questioned in the custody, police sources said.

According to reports, accused Naba Kishore got angry with his wife Rinky Mahakud for talking with her relative on mobile phone for a long time and entered into an argument with her. The altercation turned ugly when Rinky didn't refrain from speaking over phone.

Irate over the act, Naba Kishore started beating up his wife severely and locked her in a room before setting her on fire.

Relatives of the victim alleged that Naba had beaten her to death before setting her afire.

"He (Naba) beat her to death first and later set her ablaze. We know Rinky as a nice girl since childhood. Strict action should be taken against the accused husband," said Kanhei Mahakud, a relative of the deceased.

Police seized the half-burnt body of the woman for post-mortem and registered a case in this connection.

When contacted, Kankadahad police refused to comment more on the case.
