Baripada: A man was arrested from Chandipur in Mayurbhanj district by Khunta Police on charges of duping nearly Rs 5 crore from job aspirants.

The accused has been identified as Lakshman Hansda.

According to sources, Hansda took money from youths and their parents on the pretext of giving jobs and later vanished.

"He was my senior and after I cleared ITI he told me that he will arrange a job for me as he is the field manager of a plant. He had taken Rs 30,000 from me," said a youth duped by Hansda.

Hansda reportedly siphoned off nearly Rs 8 lakh from the local youths of Khunta after which a complaint of forgery was lodged by the victims. Taking cognizance of the matter, Police had launched a manhunt to nab the accused, informed sources.

"We had a warrant against Hansda under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. We tracked and arrested him from Chandipur last night. He has confessed to the charges levelled against him and even informed about involvement of more persons in this racket," informed Khunta Police Station IIC, Reena Behera.
