Odisha Man Accused Of Killing Wife Commits Suicide In Police Custody

Keonjhar: A man accused of beating his wife to death allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a piece of cloth in lock-up inside Barbil Police Station this morning.

The Additional SP of Investigating Unit on Crime Against Women (IUCAW) has been directed to initiate an investigation in connection with the incident and submit a report within 24 hours, informed sources.

On November 18, Suresh Nayak, a resident of Seding Basti in Keonjhar allegedly thrashed his wife to death and Barbil Police was conducting an investigation into the matter.

After investigation, police arrested Suresh and brought him to Barbil Police Station yesterday.

However, Suresh allegedly attempted suicide today by hanging himself inside the lock-up. Some cops present at the spot rescued Suresh and rushed him to Barbil Hospital. However, he was declared brought-dead by the doctors.

“On the basis of several evidences, the accused was arrested yesterday and kept in custody with proper precautions. However, at around 6.15 AM today, he attempted suicide,” said the SP.
