Bhanjanagar: A leopard that got stuck in a trap laid to capture wild boars in Naguda-Manitara area under Buguda forest range in Ganjam district died after being rescued by the forest officials.

The leopard died inside the cage when it was being shifted by the forest officials for its release in the wild.

According to sources, the animal was found stuck in the trap laid for wild boars on the outskirts of a village. The forest officials then reached the area to rescue the trapped animal.

However, the animal broke the trap and escaped during the rescue operation triggering panic among the locals. However, after several hours, the forest officials located the animals and rescued it.

Veterinarians examined the health condition of the rescued animal before the forest officials released it to the forest. However, while carrying the animal in a cage to release it into the forest, it died, informed Buguda forest ranger.

The reason of death is still unknown while the post-mortem report is awaited.
