Cuttack: If you think you can move around without wearing face mask just because the Covid-19 vaccine is round the corner or the pandemic restrictions have been relaxed, think again. The cops are still keeping a close watch on violators as the virus is still in the air.

The police in Cuttack has been on the prowl for such offenders, and in just three days 717 people have been slapped with fines for not wearing masks or following social distance norms.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Cuttack, Prateek Singh shared the crackdown information on his official Twitter handle on Thursday as per which 73 persons had been fined for not wearing masks, while 144 persons were penalised for violating social distancing norms in the last 24 hours.


Moreover, 545 persons were fined for violating the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act and the Orissa Urban Police (OUP) Act in the city, the tweet read.


On January 20, the police had fined 62 people for not wearing masks while 183 more were penalised for violating physical distancing norms in the Millennium City. As many as 663 persons had been slapped fines for not flouting traffic rules during the day.

Furthermore, 67 persons were fined for doing away with the mask on January 19, while 188 persons penalised for not maintaining social distancing at public places. Similarly, 527 persons faced the music for breaching the MV and OUP Acts.

Notably, people not obeying Covid-19 guidelines and violating MV Act has become a common sight in Cuttack. Many people can be seen roaming around in the allies of the town without wearing masks and not maintaining physical distancing norms at the public places.

Despite stricter implementation of the rules, many people in the city keep violating traffic rules. Earlier this month, the State Transport Authority (STA) had warned that the driving license of bikers would be suspended for three months and Rs 1,000 fine will be slapped if both the driver and pillion rider were found without helmets.
