Bhubaneswar: Grabbing an offer made by an online escort service proved dearer to an engineer from Uttar Pradesh (UP) after he lost Rs 94,000 to fraudsters who lured him into a trap.

The engineer who is originally a native of UP has been working in Bhubaneswar for the past several months.

As per reports, the young engineer lost around 94,000 from his Google pay account in two instalments to a person who promised him an exciting job in the online escort services.

The youth was allegedly approached to join the online escort service as a ‘call boy’ and was promised hefty amount against cosy rendezvous with rich female clients.

Investigations have revealed that the fraudsters were operating from Siliguri.

“I received a call from an anonymous person who identified himself as an employee in India Escort Service. Later, he shared information about girls and an audio message,” said the victim.
He said he came across the online service while browsing the internet.

Later, he received photographs of many girls and women and the company officials claimed that their network spreads across the country. As per the description of the job, the engineer was allegedly told that it involved ‘satisfying rich women’. He (the engineer) was promised to be paid Rs 8,000 for meeting every client, as per his complaint.

“Initially, the escort service officials demanded to pay a certain amount of registration fee. Afterwards Rs 94,000 was debited from my account. When I told them that I don’t want to join them and sought refund of my money, they asked for another Rs 43,000 to release the earlier amount,” said the victim, adding, “it was then I realised I have been duped.”

He then lodged a complaint with the Commissionerate Police’s Cyber Helpdesk on Friday.
Nevertheless, this is not an isolated case. Every day scores of youths in the State are getting trapped by enticing offers made by cyber criminals who are active on various social media platforms including Facebook.

One Suvendu of Bhubaneswar recently developed friendship with one Jenifer of Germany over a social networking site. Later, he received a call from Jeniffer who claimed that she was stuck in Mumbai during her visit to India.

The woman then allegedly asked Suvendu to help her in making a payment of 60,000 Pounds towards draft cheque clearance and another Rs 45,000 for conversion and clearance. Sensing something fishy, Suvendu did not responded to the SOS call of Jeniffer. It was a close shave for him.
