Jharsuguda: The much awaited flight services connecting Jharsuguda to Mumbai-Bengaluru has commenced today with the landing of first Spice Jet’s Boeing 737 at the Veer Surendra Sai airport here. The flight which landed at 12.30pm was given traditional water salute on its arrival.

Odisha Health Minister and Local MLA Naba Das, MPs like Nitesh Gangdev, Suresh Pujari, Jual Oram, Basant Panda and MLA Kishore Mohanty were present on the occasion.

The flight which is scheduled to take off for Bengaluru, will return to Jharsuguda again at around 5.40 pm. It will again start its journey to Mumbai at 6.10 pm.

The service is provided by the private carrier-Spice Jet.

The Veer Surendra Sai Airport at Jharsuguda has made elaborate arrangements to celebrate the long awaited moment.

“It is pleasure moment for all of us as our efforts to connect Jharsuguda to Mumbai and Bengaluru yielded fruits today. Almost all metro cities except Chenai have been covered. Our efforts will be on to connect more cities to the Western Odisha town,” airport director Kishore Kumar Senapati said.

“We welcome all the passengers with flowers and chocolates. A cake cutting ceremony will be held to celebrate the joyous moment,” he added.

In a related development, the Odisha Government has agreed to support Air Asia's move to operate between Bhubaneswar and Pune. The office of the Chief Minister has informed the development in a tweet.
