Odisha: Hotelier Killed In Attack By Miscreants In Rourkela

Rourkela: In shocking incident, a business man was killed in attack by unidentified miscreants near Deluxe Hotel lane in the city on Wednesday.

The deceased identified as Sajjan Mittal who is a city-based hotelier faced the murderous attack late last night in front of his residence. The miscreants fled the spot soon after committing the crime, sources said.

The incident took place when Mittal was returning to home in the night from his hotel.

Grievously injured Mittal was immediately rushed to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH). However, he succumbed to injuries today while undergoing treatment.

Family members lodged a complaint at Plant Site police station based on which police registered a case and launched investigation.

Though the exact reason behind the attack is yet be established, business rivalry is stated to be the cause of the crime.

A special team of police has carried out raids at different places in the city to nab the miscreants.

The incident triggered a sense of fear among the locals. "We are now feeling insecure following the brutal murder of Mittal in front of his house in the lane of the city. Rourkela was earlier a very peaceful town even being surrounded by Maoist-dominated forests. Police should act tough on the miscreants creating nuisance in the city," a neighbour of the deceased said.

Another local resident said "we are completely unsafe now. Police have failed to ensure security to the city residents, which is clearly observed from the rising criminal activities in the town in last few days."

In December last year, a salesman of a jewellery shop identified as Saroj Sahu  was shot dead by the miscreants on the STI Road Over Bridge under RN Pali police limits while he was carrying some ornaments on his motor-bike.
