Sambalpur: At a time when healthcare system in Odisha is drawing flak from several quarters, Naktideul Community Health Centre (CHC) in Sambalpur district is receiving accolades for its unique initiative to treat patients.

Apart from medication, the hospital authorities believe that cleanliness and a hygienic environment play important role in treating patients.

The walls of the hospital have murals displaying various health and social issues. The wall paintings also have special messages on the importance of sanitation and keeping the environment clean.

Besides, the murals are painted depicting famous movie scenes from Bahubali, Sholay and Zanjeer which helps spreading social awareness message among locals.

Moreover, the CHC has an herbal garden, a water fountain, a place to dry hang clothes, a news paper reading place and even an amusement park for children.

An in-house mini vegetable farm supplies vegetables for food cooked for the inmates in the hospital. With colourful lights and a soothing sound of water fountain, the hospital resembles like a resort during night.

According to the authorities, this kind of atmosphere spread a positive vive among the patients which ultimately helps healing them.

Kumudini Sahoo, an Asha worker said, “The cleanliness and greenery attracts us to this CHC. I haven’t seen anything like this anywhere in my life.”

Premananda Nag, a relative of one patient said, “The beauty and ambience of the hospital keep us happy and ultimately help patients heal faster.”

Though the Naktideul CHC doesn’t have adequate number of doctors, the atmosphere and proper treatment with care in the hospital are attracting many patients to the hospital.

“We are trying to cover three aspects of treatment here- sushtha (healthy), swaccha (clean) and sabuja (green),” said Amulyaratna Mohanty, Medical Officer of Naktideul CHC.
